How to facilitate a happy, healthy and productive birding event. - Red Rock Audubon

Dave Anderson is no stranger to taking risks in the outdoors in pursuit of the wild. Along the way, he has learned how to lead others in the backcountry. For this one time, he will lead a class on how to handle the unexpected when leading a bird walk.

When guiding a bird walk, leaders tend to put all their energy into helping participants find and identify birds. However, facilitating a birding event takes more than just knowing the field marks and sounds of birds. Creating a safe, effective learning environment takes planning and re-assessment during the event.

Join Dave Anderson on March 10 for a morning of birding and learning techniques/tips to safely lead a successful birding event. We will focus on subjective and objective hazards that outdoor leaders may encounter and strategies to overcome these challenges. The event will start with a bird walk around Sunset Park and then a mixture of lecture topics and practical scenarios.

Meeting location:  Parking lot next to pickleball courts.
