The Big Sit is an annual celebration of the rich species diversity that passes through our urban wetlands in October. We will gather at the observation deck on the northeast corner of the nature center and watch birds as they pass by. During this part of fall migration, we expect waterfowl, hawks, and a variety of songbirds. Detecting 50-60 species during a morning is usually achievable.
Watching migration from a stationary point can be exciting, and we will look and listen for birds as a group. There is no established trip leader, but you’ll see many members of Red Rock Audubon throughout the day. All experience levels are welcome; many of our members are great ambassadors for birds and bird enthusiasts.
Make sure to bring water bottles, a hat, folding chair, binoculars, and a scope if available. We hope to see you there!
