John Mark Simmons will lead a hike to learn about Thrashers and their habitat. He has been doing avian and other surveys in the area and is familiar with their favorite places. Look for other desert dwellers in the area such as horned larks (recently seen), phainopepla, possible burrowing owls and other local birds.
We will be meeting at a parking pull-off on Corn Creek Rd, just past the gate. Here is the link to the parking area: https://goo.gl/maps/xrkqDiA186FBXNTJ6 The hike will go on paths throught the desert for up to 2 miles out, depending on the sightings. Total hike could be up to 4 miles on easy terrain. Be mindful of the Vegas heat, bring plenty of water and sun protection including a wide-brimmed hat, closed toed shoes and sunscreen.
