Nancy Old, a Red Rock Audubon member, is doing a guided tour of the Henderson Bird Viewing Preserve. Please contact Nancy to register, the information is at the bottom of the description.  The following is the description of the event:

Henderson Bird Viewing Preserve (HBVP) is quite a gem of a wildlife preserve located at the Kurt. R. Segler Water Reclamation Facility. Over 140 acres of basins, lagoons, nine ponds, shade trees, and an overlook tower with several trails, paved and unpaved for your viewing pleasure! The paved path is about 3⁄4 of a mile long and is wheelchair accessible. Most surfaces are level. There are plenty of places to sit and rest to cool off.

Thousands of migratory birds and resident birds live at HBVP at any given time! You must return to the Visitor Center fifteen minutes prior to closing if you plan to stay longer. Please do not feed the birds or wildllife! There are bird-feeders by the Visitor Center once you enter the grounds. Pets are not permitted in the preserve!

MEETING TIME & PLACE: May 19, 8 AM at the Visitor Center. Spring hours are from 6 AM to 2 PM. Children under the age of 18 must be accompanied by a parent or a guardian. This hiking tour will conclude at 10:30 AM.

HBVP fees: $0! This is a free event. First-time visitors need to register at the Visitor Center before entering through the preserve. Restrooms are at the Visitor Center. Maps of the preserve may be available as well as a bird checklist. There is plenty of signage along the trails. If you don’t have binoculars, HBVP has some binoculars to loan out.

WHAT TO BRING: Comfortable clothes for the weather, sturdy close-toed shoes, water, a hat, sunscreen, snacks, binoculars, camera equipment or a spotting scope, and a cooling towel. I recommend not locking anything valuable in your car, but bring them with you. Recently, Clark County Wetlands Park has been posting warning notices about car break-ins!
