September is always a special time for Red Rock Audubon members. After a long hot summer we happily gather to share stories and enjoy each other's company and be entertained and informed at our first general meeting of the season. Monthly bird walks resume, participants optimistic that more moderate temperatures prevail. This year the pandemic has changed much but not our enthusiasm for birds. Your RRAS board of directors has been working together digitally yet diligently to continue the work of our organization so that we can all still enjoy each other's company and the company of birds. Our first general meeting of the season will be held on September 12th at 9:30 am via Google Meet. You will need to sign up through our website calendar to receive the link for the meeting. Click here. A full morning awaits you! The amazing work of two of our members is the main item on our busy agenda. Jim Boone, a well-known local naturalist and environmental champion, is featured in a film by Fred Bell. The film highlights Jim's work eradicating the threat posed to birds and other animals by mine markers. Both will be available for a Q&A after the film. Members will share their summer bird sightings, catch you up on exciting chapter news and tell you about our future plans. Sign in at 9:30 and spend some time reconnecting with friends. So grab your refreshments and settle into a comfy chair.
Bird walks will also resume in September. For the safety of our participants the number of participants on a walk will be limited. Masks will be required and social distancing maintained. A light pointer will be used to help point out where birds can be seen. There will be no sharing of equipment such as spotting scopes or binoculars. Our first bird walks are scheduled at the Henderson Bird Viewing. Please visit our calendar for further information and to sign up for these walks. If a walk has reached capacity you will be placed on a waiting list. Click here. Be sure to check our calendar frequently for more bird walks. Other locations are being considered. And don't forget our Virtual Birds and Beer (or your favorite beverage) that takes place the second Tuesday of each month. Go to our website calendar and click on the event for the link to join our very happy hour. Plus our new Dream Birding Tours will take you to far away, exotic locations to see birds you never thought you would ever see. See the previously published article below for details. So welcome back Red Rock Audubon friends! We can''t wait to "see" you.
