by Paul Rodriguez On Saturday, February 15th we had a group of 20 students and their teachers from the Rise Academy, joined us at the Winchester Cultural Center as part or the Winchester Nesters Program, for the Great Backyard Bird Count. The day started with the student gathering in a classroom to learn about the importance of protecting habitats and how recording bird sightings in programs like eBird.org can help scientist gather data that could ultimately helps us protect birds. From there we went outside and started entering our bird sightings into ebird. In the 40 minutes that we spent observing, we spotted 14 species including a Red-tailed Hawk circling overhead.
All in all, I believe the kids, as well as the adults had a great time participating in the Great Backyard Bird Count of 2020.
