Perfect weather on Sunday November 11th made the day even more enjoyable for the two dozen or so volunteers at Henderson Bird Viewing Preserve. Guided by Christiana Manville of US Fish and Wildlife Services we worked to improve the habitat for wildlife. Providing tools, she and Doyle Wayman instructed volunteers on how to properly prune willow trees and remove dead vegetation. Pond One received a brilliant makeover, thanks to many volunteers including children and youths of different ages. The island also received much needed attention, thanks to intrepid volunteers who rowed back and forth, cleared vegetation and hauled it to shore for disposal. Some work was done around Pond Two as well.
Red Rock Audubon members happyily worked alongside volunteers from other organizations and members of the community who just wanted to pitch in to make this wonderful resource in our community even better. Another volunteer opportunity awaits on December 9th. Please join us from 8:00 am to noon. Children are welcome! Just wear your work clothes and closed toed shoes. Don't forget your hat, sunscreen and a bottle of water.
