CONSERVATION
Actions We're Taking:
HBVP Stewardship & Visitor Center Planning
We support the Henderson Bird Viewing Preserve with seasonal stewardship events focused on removing invasive plants, planting natives, promoting bird habitat, improving accessibility, and planning for a new visitor center.
33 Hole “Adopt the Spot” – Lake Mead
We’ve adopted the 33 Hole Overlook at Lake Mead! Join our regular cleanup events to help keep this beloved birding and recreation site clean and beautiful. Check our calendar for upcoming dates.
Fishing Line Removal – Floyd Lamb Park
Our members regularly remove discarded fishing line from Floyd Lamb Park to prevent injury to birds and other wildlife. A small action with a big impact.
Rainbow Owl Preserve – Habitat Monitoring
We help maintain clean, safe habitat for burrowing owls at Rainbow Owl Preserve through regular monitoring and stewardship activities.
Bird Friendly Campus Initiative - UNLV
In partnership with the
UNLV Birding & Conservation Club and UNLV staff, we have surveyed the UNLV campus to find window collision hot spots. In the fall of 2025, RRA will help support the implementation of anti-window collision decals around the UNLV campus. We plan to continue to monitor the buildings and learn more about the impacts of window decals.
Operation Zero – Lake Mead
Join Operation Zero – Lake Mead
(OZ C.R.E.W), held each fall and spring, where volunteers hop aboard the OZ boat to reach remote coves and spend two hours removing litter to protect this vital ecosystem.
Hemispheric Conservation Approach
Birds migrate across borders, and so must our conservation efforts—especially in the
Pacific Americas Flyway—as we support initiatives that protect birds throughout their full journey, from nesting grounds to winter habitats.
Red Rock Audubon Advocacy Positions
At Red Rock Audubon, we believe in protecting birds, their habitats, and the people who share those spaces. We advocate for smart, sustainable policies that keep Nevada wild, healthy, and accessible for everyone — birds and humans alike.
Public Lands
Nevada consists of 85% public lands which are used for a variety of purposes including recreation, wildlife habitat, renewable energy development, grazing, and cultural preservation. Public lands are for everyone.
Red Rock Audubon supports keeping public lands accessible to the public, healthy, and protected for future generations of people and wildlife.
Birds & Habitat
Being a part of the Pacific Flyway, Southern Nevada is a place where migratory birds stop for safe places to rest, feed, and raise their young.
Red Rock Audubon commits to protect those places. Healthy habitat means healthy birds — and that means a healthier planet.
Responsible Renewable Energy
We support the responsible development of clean energy that works for people and for wildlife. Renewables are the future —but they can’t come at the cost of habitat.
Clean energy done right protects wildlife, communities, and the planet.
Desert & Water Conservation
The Mojave Desert is vital — and so are its precious wetlands and waterways.
Wetlands may be rare in the desert, but they are absolutely essential. They provide critical habitat for birds, filter and store water, support biodiversity, and act as natural climate buffers.
Water is life. Let’s protect our desert oases, wetlands, and the wildlife that depend on them.
Climate Action
Climate action starts at home — and in our communities.
Red Rock Audubon supports climate action through advocacy and stewardship for the Mojave Desert and our local bird hot spots. We support monitoring bird populations as indicators of climate change, and plan on guiding science-based environmental policies and solutions. We’re building a better climate future — for birds and for us.
Healthy Birds, Healthy Planet
What’s good for birds is good for the planet.
Bird health tells us how our planet is doing — we listen. Red Rock Audubon supports the protection of birds and their environment. We support the use of science and monitoring bird populations as an indicator of the health of our ecosystem and planet.
Urban Habitats & City-Nature Connections
We live in a city within the desert—home to unique ecosystems and wildlife. Our work helps reconnect urban communities to nature through education, access, and conservation efforts that protect the fragile desert habitats around us.
Birds migrate across borders, and so must our conservation efforts—especially in the
Pacific Americas Flyway—as we support initiatives that protect birds throughout their full journey, from nesting grounds to winter habitats.
Lights Out Program
Artificial lights disorient migrating birds. We’re exploring support to launch a Lights Out initiative in our region to reduce nighttime lighting during migration seasons.

Preventing Bird-Window Collisions
Each year, millions of birds die from window strikes. Make your home safe for birds!
We’re seeking partners and resources to help implement solutions that make our built environment safer for birds.
Sustainable Living in a Changing Climate
We promote everyday actions and community-level solutions that reduce our environmental impact and build resilience in the face of climate change. Join local sustainability efforts like All-In Clark County to take meaningful action right here at home.
