Building a Bird Friendly Community

In our ever-growing urban area it is vital that we do our best to create habitats where birds can thrive.  You can support birds in your back yard, on your patio or even on your balcony by providing the food, water and shelter that they need.

Bird diets vary.  Some eat seeds, some feed on insects and some get their nutrition from nectar.  Planting a variety of plants can provide sustenance in all three of these areas.  Putting out hummingbird feeders will attract these colorful flyers to your home.

You also can act to ensure birds are safe in your yard.  Over a billion birds are killed every year by colliding into glass windows.  Millions of birds are killed by outdoor cats.   Birds can contract life-threatening illnesses from water sources that are not maintained properly.
